Many wide format and digital flatbed inkjet systems incorporate quartz plates (quartz windows) in their equipment. These include Agfa Anapurna, Dilli, Durst, EFI Rastek, Gandi, Gandinnovations, Gerber, HP, Integration Technology, IP&I, Mimaki, Oce, Vutek and Zund

The plate is mounted between the UV lamp and the substrate. Quartz plates serve many purposes:

  • They  isolate the ultraviolet lamp allowing defined areas for cooling air
  • They keep cooling air away from sensitive inkjet print heads
  • Help mitigate substrate temperature
  • Keep misting ink off the UV lamp
  • Help maintain optimum UV lamp temperature

        



To optimize curing performance it is imperative to keep your quartz plate clean and free of fingerprints. Quartz plates naturally solarize with age. Over time ultraviolet transmission is reduced hampering the UV curing process. Regular cleaning and/or replacement should be part of any maintenance plan. Not all quartz is alike, TCS Technologies uses only American (USA) sourced materials for consistent UV output. Quartz originating in China is full of impurities. Such “bargain” quartz is not much of a bargain factoring in total cost of production and inkjet printer downtime. Considering the most expensive digital printer quartz plate TCS Technologies sells is under $200.00, one has no excuse in skimping on quality.
